Adjusting Your Beauty Routine When You’re Stuck at Home More
When most of your day happens indoors and video calls replace face to face meetings, the way people think about beauty tends to shift. Some folks drop makeup almost entirely, others lean into skincare as a form of downtime, and a few discover their old routine simply doesn’t suit their new schedule anymore. There’s no wrong answer here, just a chance to rethink what actually serves you rather than what you’ve always done out of habit.
Skincare Becomes More About the Ritual Than the Result
With fewer places to be, a lot of people found themselves enjoying the process of a routine rather than rushing through it. Double cleansing in the evening, a face mask while watching something on the telly, a slower pace generally. There’s genuine value in treating these minutes as a break rather than a chore to tick off.
Some people also used the extra time to try things they’d never normally have patience for, like a weekly hair mask or a proper hand and foot routine. None of it needs to be expensive to feel worthwhile, it just needs a bit of unhurried time, which was suddenly easier to find.
Screen Time Brings Its Own Skin Concerns
Hours of video calls under indoor lighting can make people fixate on their skin in a way they never used to, since seeing your own face on a screen all day is a strange new habit. Try not to over-treat in response. Blue light exposure from screens isn’t the skin emergency some articles suggest, and a solid daily SPF and consistent moisturiser will do more than any dramatic new addition.
Makeup Bags Need a Rethink Too
If you’re wearing less makeup day to day, it’s worth checking expiry dates more often than you might think, since product left untouched for months can still go off. Mascara and liquid liner are the worst offenders. When you do want to wear something, a tinted moisturiser and a bit of concealer often does more for how you feel on a call than a full face ever will, and it takes a fraction of the time to apply.
A Slower Pace Doesn’t Have to Disappear Once Things Get Busier
Once schedules fill back up, it’s tempting to abandon every slower habit picked up during quieter stretches, but a few of them are worth defending even when time is tighter. Even ten minutes on a Sunday evening for a mask or a proper double cleanse can carry the same sense of pause it did before, without needing an entire quiet week to justify it. The lesson a lot of people took from that period wasn’t really about skincare products at all, it was about noticing that a bit of unhurried time spent on yourself is worth protecting rather than something that only happens by accident when everything else slows down.
